Light, with a touch of sweetness and a spicy kick. These corn dogs are simple to make and so delicious.
INGREDIENTS
- Chicken frankfurters – 5
- All-purpose flour – 1/2 cup
- Cornmeal – 1/2 cup
- Sugar – 2 tablespoons
- Baking powder – 2 teaspoons
- Salt – 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper – 1/4 teaspoon
- Nutmeg – 1/2 teaspoon
- Pepper – to taste, optional
- Curry or turmeric – 1/2 teaspoon, optional
- Egg – 1 large
- Milk – 1/2 cup
- Cooking oil – For deep frying
PROCEDURE
Step 1
Heat up some oil on medium low heat for deep frying.
Step 2
Cut the hot dogs in half.
Step 3
Insert the wooden skewers. If you have the long skewers, break them in half and use scissors to trim them.
Step 4
Coat the dogs with flour and set aside.
Step 5
Add the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, sugar, black pepper, nutmeg, turmeric, and salt into a bowl. Mix to combine.
You can add whatever spice and herb you like to the batter. Be creative!
Step 6
Add one large egg
Step 7
And the milk.
Step 8
Mix to combine. The batter doesn’t have to be completely smooth.
Step 9
Roll the hot dogs in the batter one at a time.
You could transfer the batter into a tall glass cup and dip the hot dogs in it if that’d be easier for you.
Step 10
Gently drop the hot dogs in the hot oil, 3 to 4 at a time. Fry until golden.
Step 11
Remove from the oil and drain on paper napkins to soak up excess oil.
Step 12

Serve hot with pepper sauce or ketchup and/or mustard.
