CHOCOLATE BREAD ROLLS

If you are a lover of chocolate, you will love this bread, it’s mildly sweet, tender, soft, fluffy, and so chocolatey, paired with your choice of butter, jam, or chocolate spread.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 5 tablespoons melted butter or margarine
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water

PROCEDURE

Step 1

Pour the warm water into the bowl of your mixer, sprinkle in the yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar, give it a quick mix and leave until frothy. About 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 2

After 10 minutes add the melted butter or margarine, milk, egg and sugar

Step 3

Add the flour, cocoa powder and salt.

Step 4

Knead for about 8 to 10 minutes or until smooth and stretchy. This process can also be done by hand.

Step 5

Oil the inside of a large bowl, shape dough into a ball, place inside the bowl and coat top of dough with a little vegetable oil. Cover bowl with plastic wrap/kitchen towel and place in a warm spot until doubled in size.

Step 6

1 hour 30 minutes later…beautifully risen dough.

Step 7

Butter 1 or 2 baking pans or baking tray with high sides. Punch dough down and divide into 10 to 16 equal parts

Step 8

Take each piece and shape into balls. Arrange dough balls in baking pan/tray, seam side down. Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot until doubled in size.

Step 9

1 hour later… 10 minutes before the end of the second rise, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Uncover bread dough and bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove bread from the oven, take out from the pan, and brush with a tablespoon of butter. (I didn’t, as I ran out of butter). Enjoy!
