Crispy fried onions also called Beresta or Birista takes your dish to the next level. It’s a great addition to your marinades, use it to make your curries, soups, garnish your food, add to sandwiches, etc. It’s a delicious flavour enhancer.
INGREDIENTS
- Onions – 5
- Salt – 1 tab
- Vegetable oil – for deep frying
PROCEDURE

Step 1
Peel the onions

Step 2
Thinly slice the onions.

Step 3
Add the salt.

Step 4
Massage the onions to get rid of its water.
If you don’t want to add salt, you could place the onions on paper towels for 1 hour to soak up the moisture.

Step 5
Squeeze out the water.

Step 6
Transfer to a sieve to drain any leftover liquid.

Step 7
Heat up some oil for frying.

Step 8
Fry the onions in batches.

Step 9
Stir from time to time. Fry until it’s crispy and golden brown.

Step 10
It’s perfectly fried, now remove from oil.

Step 11
Transfer to a paper towel lined plate.

Step 12
Spread with a fork and leave until it’s completely cool.

Step 13
Transfer to a jar or plastic bag. Store in the fridge and use it within 4 months. Although, some people swear it lasts up to a year.
