INGREDIENTS

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour plus more for kneading
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter or margarine
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for brushing

PROCEDURE

Step 1

Pour the warm water into a small bowl, sprinkle in the yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar, give it a quick mix and leave until frothy.

Step 2

About 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 3

Add the dry ingredients into the bowl of your mixer.

Step 4

Mix the dry ingredients, create a well in the middle and add the melted butter or margarine, milk, egg, and yeast.

Step 5

Knead for about 8 to 10 minutes or until the dough is smooth and stretchy. This process can also be done by hand.

Step 6

Oil the inside of a large bowl, place the dough inside, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and/or kitchen towel, and place in a warm spot until doubled in size.

Step 7

About 90 minutes.

Step 8

Grease a baking pan or baking tray with high sides with butter or line with parchment paper. Punch dough down and divide into 12 to16 parts.

Step 9

Take each piece and shape it into balls. Arrange dough balls in baking pan/tray, seam side down. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and allow to double in size.

Step 10

1 hour later… 10 minutes before the end of the second rise, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes. Remove bread from the oven, take it out from the pan, and brush it with a tablespoon of butter.
