INGREDIENTS
- Lukewarm water 1/4 cup
- Yeast 1 tablespoon
- Sugar 1 teaspoon
- Water 1/2 cup
- Milk 1/2 cup
- Unsalted butter – 1/2 cup, melted and cooled
- Egg – 1 (large)
- Salt – 1 teaspoon
- Sugar 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour 4 cups
- Butter 2 tablespoons
PROCEDURE
Pour in the lukewarm water into a mixing bowl, add the yeast, one teaspoon and mix to combine. Set aside until the yeast is frothy, about 10 minutes.
Now add a half cup of water, the milk, egg, sugar, melted butter, flour and salt.
Bring the dough together and use a hand mixer to mix until smooth. You can do this with your hand, but be careful not to knead with too much flour, you want a smooth and sticky dough.
Cover the dough and place in a warm spot until it doubles in size. About 1 hour 30 minutes.
Deflate the dough and tip the bowl on your floured work surface. Divide the dough into two.
Take one piece of dough and roll it out into a circle. Be sure to flour your rolling pin as the dough would be quite sticky.
Brush the top of the dough with one tablespoon of softened butter. Using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut the dough into triangles, like you would slice a pizza. About 8 to 16 pieces, depending on how big you want them.
Roll each triangle, starting a the larger base, towards the thin end. Repeat the process for the other dough.
Place the rolls on a parchment-lined or greased baking trays. Cover with a kitchen napkin and place in a warm spot until doubled in size. About 1 hour.
Bake the rolls in a preheated 350 F oven for 12 to 14 minutes. If you made the rolls bigger, bake them for 16 to 18 minutes.
Remove the rolls from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter. Transfer unto a wire rack to cool.
