These stuffed buns are soft and tender with a delicious meat filling. It’s perfect for breakfast, lunch, or as an appetizer. You can use minced meat, chicken, ground turkey, or whatever you fancy. Make it your own and add your favourite spices and veggies. They are so good and addictive.
INGREDIENTS
DOUGH
- Water – 1/2 cup
- Yeast – 2 teaspoons
- Sugar – 4 tablespoons, use more or less
- Egg – 1
- Flour – 3 cups, plus more for kneading
- Salt – 1 & 1/2 teaspoons
- Melted butter – 1/4 cup
FILLING
- Cooking oil – 2 tablespoons
- Minced beef – 500g
- Tomato+Pepper paste – 1 heaping tablespoon
- Rosemary – 1 teaspoon
- White pepper – 1/2 teaspoon
- Curry powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper – 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt – to taste
- Mixed bell peppers – 1/2 cup
- Flour – 1 heaping tablespoon
- Water – 1/2 cup
TOPPING
- Egg – 1
- Sesame seeds – 2 tablespoons
PROCEDURE
Step 1
Pour the lukewarm water into your mixing bowl. Add the yeast and half of the sugar. Mix to combine and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 2
Add the egg.
Step 3
Add the flour, the rest of the sugar and salt. You can use more sugar if you want it sweet.
Step 4
Add the melted butter and mix well to combine.
Step 5
Knead until smooth and stretchy. About 8 to 10 minutes.
Step 6
Transfer the dough into an oiled bowl, cover and place in a warm spot until doubled in size. About 1 hour 30 minutes.
Step 7
Heat up 2 tablespoons of oil. Add the minced beef and fry until its no longer pink.
Step 8
Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Fry until the onion softens.
Step 10
Add the pepper and tomato paste and mix to combine.
Step 11
Add the rosemary, curry powder, white pepper, thyme, black pepper and some salt to taste. Fry for about a minute.
Step 12
Add the mixed bell peppers. You can use any veggies you like, carrots, green peas etc.
Step 13
Stir in one heaping tablespoon of flour.
Step 14
Add half cup of water and cook until it’s dry. Take it off the heat and set aside to cool completely.

Deflate the dough.
Step 16
Divide into 10 to 14 pieces and shape them into balls.

Working with one dough ball at a time, roll out the dough or flatten with your hands. Put some filling in the centre of the dough.
Step 19
Bring up the edges together and pinch tightly.
Step 20
Place the bun seam side down on a greased baking tray. Repeat the process.
Cover loosely and set aside for about 20 minutes, meanwhile preheat your oven to 350 F.
Step 21
Brush the top of the buns with some egg wash (beaten egg) and sprinkle the tops with some sesame seeds.
Bake in the preheated oven for 18 to 22 minutes.
Step 22
Remove from the oven and transfer to a rack to cool slightly.
Step 23
Serve! Freeze leftover buns. When ready to eat, thaw then warm in the oven for a few minutes.
