Chilli Fish Recipe

Simple Chilli Fish recipe that is tangy, full of bold flavours and so delicious! You can serve it as an appetizer or with fried rice and noodles.

INGREDIENTS

  • Boneless/skinless fish – 1 kg
  • Salt – to taste
  • Ginger/garlic paste – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chilli pepper – to taste
  • Flour – 3 tablespoons
  • Cornflour – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt – a pinch
  • Black pepper – a pinch
  • Egg white – 1
  • Minced garlic – 1 tablespoon
  • Minced ginger – 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh chilli pepper – 1
  • Onion – 1 bulb
  • Sweet pepper – 1 cup

SAUCE

  • Chilli sauce – 2 tablespoons
  • Tomato Ketchup – 2 tablespoons
  • Dark soy sauce – 2 to 3 teaspoons
  • White vinegar – 1 teaspoon

SLURRY

  • Corn flour – 2 tablespoons
  • Water – 4 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil – for frying

PROCEDURE

Step 1

Rinse, pat dry the fish and cut into cubes.

Step 2

Add some salt to taste and half a teaspoon of black pepper.

Step 3

Add 1 teaspoon of ginger and garlic paste, chilli pepper and mix to combine.

Step 4

Marinate for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 5

After 20 minutes, pour in the flour and cornflour onto the fish, add a pinch of salt and black pepper and one egg white. Mix well to combine and set aside.

Step 6

Let’s make the sauce.

In a small bowl, pour in the chilli sauce.

Step 7

Add the tomato ketchup

Step 8

Add the soy sauce and white vinegar and mix to combine. You can use lemon juice if you don’t have vinegar.

Step 9

Set aside.

Step 10

Deep fry the fish in batches until golden. Take them out of the oil and set aside.

Take out the oil from the pan leaving about 2 to 3 tablespoons.

Step 11

Add one tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 teaspoon of ginger into the oil and fry until fragrant. Now, add the fresh chilli and stir-fry for about 30 seconds.

Add the onion

Add the sweet pepper and stir-fry on high heat for 1 minute.

Step 14

Add the fried fish and fry for 1 minute.

Step 15

Pour in the sauce and mix to combine and continue frying for another minute.

Step 16

Add the slurry, mix to combine and fry for 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and serve.
