Soft and Fluffy Doughnuts

These doughnuts are a definition of perfection. Each one is incredibly soft, wonderfully light, and simply delicious. They are versatile too. You can serve them with a dusting of powdered sugar, a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for warm spice, fill them with your favourite jams or preserves, or enjoy them exactly as they are. Either way, You’ll find them to be an incredible treat.

PROCEDURE

Pour the lukewarm water into a mixing bowl. Add the yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Mix it to combine, then leave it to bloom for about 10 minutes

Now, add the flour, salt, eggs, sugar and milk

Add the melted butter. You do not want the butter to be hot, else it may kill the yeast

Knead for 8 to 15 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic

Transfer the dough unto a work surface and cut into desired sizes

Please shape the dough into uniform balls. Once shaped, carefully place them on either the cut, floured parchment paper or the prepared trays, ensuring they have enough space between them

Cover loosely with cling film and let it rise for an hour

Remove the cling film then heat up some oil for deep frying

Gently transfer the dough into the oil on medium-low heat. This will ensure the doughnuts cook thoroughly. Also, please fry them a little at a time to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Flip and cook on the other side until it is golden

Remove from oil and place on a wire rack or paper lined tray to drain excess oil.
